September 15th – October 15 is Hispanic Heritage month and the theme for 2021, Esperanza: A Celebration of Heritage and Hope invites us to celebrate Hispanic Heritage and to reflect on how great our collective tomorrows can be when we embrace our resilience and hope while encouraging us to reflect on all the contributions Latinos have made in the past and will continue to make in the future. We will be taking several weeks to amplify the voices and the presence of the Latina powerhouses in our community.

April Hernandez Castillo... Actress, author, and motivational speaker. Best known for her riveting performance as "Eva" in the hit movie, Freedom Writers, starring Hilary Swank, April Hernandez Castillo was living the Hollywood dream. However, behind the glitz and glamor was a woman dealing secretly with a traumatic past. From growing up in the Bronx to being in an abusive relationship as a teenager, April's future looked bleak. However, as a survivor of intimate partner violence, April, determined to make a difference, educates her audiences about the power of their voices, the effects of abuse, and understanding the components of a healthy relationship.
